40 Day Devotionals 2014 Day 14

So I have to apologize to my wife. She obviously is being kicked by the baby, it's not just gas (as I joked earlier). How do I know this? I felt the baby kick! For the very first time! Let me tell you, it is a super cool experience! Granted, my wife gets to experience all of the baby movements inside her, some are not so pleasant. Being able to feel the baby move and kick was pretty cool! Plus, it verifies to me that there is something in there. Either alien or baby, we will know soon enough. Kelli says it hurts when it kicks.
really annoyed by the spelling error in the picture!
Maybe the kid is a karate master or some other martial art? A female Karate Master? I am down for that!

On the sickness front. My wife and I are still both under the weather. I am coughing still and Kelli is just really weak. I'm hoping she gets well soon. I'm not so worried about me, I'll tough through it.

Day 14

Scripture

Proverbs 4:5-10
-          5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. 7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. 8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. 9 She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.” 10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
Wisdom

-          I recently read somewhere that the book of Proverbs is like the Twitter of the bible. It has little nuggets of insight in small packages. Look at each verse from this passage. Each verse packs its own message.
-          We live in an age today where everything is spread electronically. Any information you want can be passed instantly. Newsfeed, status updates, personal messages appear on cell phones and even college courses can be taken online! Knowledge is instantaneous! But Wisdom is not.
-          Wisdom, Godly Wisdom is being able to see things from His point of view. You need His perspective to live a Godly life. You cannot do it on your own.
-          Think about when you make your choices. Do you seek Godly advice from those who have it? Do you turn to God with all of life’s problems?
-          And where can you receive His wisdom you ask? Why the scriptures of course! You can also turn to people like pastors, elders, and mentors who have studied the Bible quite a bit and understand some of its teachings.
-          It is critical to seek wisdom in our decisions in life. Behind the life of every successful person, there are mentors holding them up.

Apply

-          So do you seek Godly advice from scripture or spiritual partners or elders?
-          Are you open to God’s opinion in your life? Or is your life, just your life?

Prayer

-          Pray that the Lord gives you wisdom to understand your life. Pray that He give you the understanding of His Word in the Bible. Pray that He brings people around you whom you can trust to support you in this life.
