Anyhu, things are going great with Baby B. Kelli and I have been looking at names more seriously now. We have been going through and looking at cultural references, meanings, and background on names. It has been quite fun. Names that we liked at first, then were just removed after we realized the meanings behind them. On the other hand we are excited to go register for baby paraphernalia! Baby showers are a coming! This is what some people say is the fun part. I would have thought taking care a of a new born human, the miracle of childbirth, the joy of parenthood, but who am I to argue with free stuff!
Day 16
Scripture
Exodus 2:11-20
-
11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he
went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He
saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12 Looking
this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the
sand. 13 The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He
asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?” 14
The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of
killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought,
“What I did must have become known.” 15 When Pharaoh heard of
this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in
Midian, where he sat down by a well. 16 Now a priest of Midian had
seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water
their father’s flock. 17 Some shepherds came along and drove them
away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock. 18
When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them, “Why have you
returned so early today?” 19 They answered, “An Egyptian
rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the
flock.” 20 “And where is he?” Reuel asked his daughters. “Why did
you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat.”
Wisdom
-
Looking at Moses’ beginning as a servant of
God you see that he is no different than us. He was a simple man who just
wanted to see the right thing happen. But he acted impulsively without thinking
and killed a man and tried to hide it. He didn’t rely on god to correct the
murdered Egyptians mistake. He quickly learned that these things can’t be
hidden.
-
Sometimes our decisions can look logical but
many times they are just decisions made without thinking out the consequences.
We have all done what Moses did and rely on our own decision making instead of
turning to God. Moses made many mistakes, so much so that he and the Israelites
roamed the desert for 40 years. But God was taking that time to refine and make
a remarkable man out of Moses. He gave Moses another chance even after he
murdered someone.
Apply
-
Do you think that the Lord will give you
another chance for your mistakes?
-
Think back to all the second chances you have
had in life; wasn’t God involved?
-
Isn’t the Lord preparing you through trials
and mistakes for His work?
Prayer
-
Thank God for giving us another chance every
time you mess up. Spend time thinking and meditating on moments where God was
there with you when you made decisions that impacted your life. Ask God to be
with you every time you make a choice or decision.
